Saturday morning arrived and it was mid to high 30's and FREEZING! I knew I would start the race I just didn't know how long I would last out there on that cold course. Within the first 100 yards there were several trenches/moats...whatever you want to call the horrible things, I could barely get out of it (they were over my head and slippery). They made your hands and toes NUMB! HORRIBLE JUST HORRIBLE! The pain in my hands was so bad that if I did not regain feeling or movement in my blue/purple hands within the next mile I was going to consider pulling out of the race. I shoved them in a a trash bag and eventually got feeling. This Spartan was a runner friendly course, but the obstacles got to me this go around. For each obstacle you fail you do 30 burpees...I ended up doing 150 burpees. It exposed my upper body weaknesses very quickly, now I know what I need to work on. The whole race I psyched myself out about the tyrolean traverse, by time I got there I had already done 120 burpees, and for this obstacle you had to try it 3 times and for each time you failed you had to do 30 burpees, 90 total! I couldn't do the obstacle the way Crystle and Dennis told me to do it but I refused to hit that water! I made it all the way to the bell the FIRST TIME! I DID IT!!!
Everyone in the group did GREAT! It was such an amazing trip and I am lucky to have this group of people in my life! I cannot wait to do more Spartans with everyone. :)
