Michelle and I made a decision to run the SHAMROCK FULL MARATHON!! So excited we both began out training for this race. My training began in December. I was trying to maintain HIIT and running but it was too much on my body. The long miles wrecked havoc on my hips. I did the Tidewater Striders Distance Series to build up to the Shamrock and the 30k was a disaster! Where do I begin, it was cold and POURING rain! I hate wet feet! So it starts, I was actually not doing bad, holding about a 9:30 pace for the first 9 miles...then boom! My feet, they hurt so bad, I had blisters covering them, so I took my shoes off and at 12 miles, the turn around point I dropped my left them, I only had another 5 miles I could run barefoot. Wrong again, I wanted to cry, at this point my feet were blistered (I only thought a little bit), my hips hurt, and everything was miserable. I turned around right before the turnaround and headed in. I barely made it back and then got in my car. I called my mom balling, I've been training for nothing, shamrock is in 3 weeks and I can't run, my body can't handle it. I literally was crawling around the house that night because I couldn't put pressure on my feet. I took a week off and had an amazing 20.5 miler. Shamrock was back on!
Shamrock, I was nervous and excited, I did the 8k the day before to get me in Shamrock mood. I didn't know if i had prepared enough for this race. It was amazing, I didn't hit a wall and actually felt fine during the race, My time was 4:19, which is about a 9:45 min pace per mile. I was hooked, again! It is hard to get out of your comfort zone and try new things but it is always worth it...I knew this was not going to be my last marathon!
