On Friday Erin, Tasha, and I headed up to Wintergreen and met up with our fellow teammates. We all hungout Friday night and woke up early Saturday morning to get ready for the race. All of the men races seperatly and the women stuck together and did the race as a group.
The Virgina Spartan held up to it's brutal reputation. The race was a long and hard 7.2 miles. My calves cramped and the first two miles were rough. Once I warmed up my calves weren't as bad and I was hiking a little but better. All of the other ladies were excellent hikers and I was always falling behind on the climbs.
Some of the obstacles were challenging, the bucket burgade kicked my butt! It was uphill and carrying the bucket uphill made my back hurt, so every 25 yards I sat the bucket down and did press ups. A few people thought I was doing yoga on the course. The way downhill with the bucket was better and I didn't have to lay the bucket down, well that is until I busted my ass and fell with the bucket slamming into my quads. Then we all had to do burpees at the spear throw and the money bars were so far apart and slick that everyone fell off of those as well.
When we were hiking downhill through a creek I slipped and sliced my hand open. Then shortly after that I got stung by 3 bees; I found out that I wasn't allergic to bees so that is good!
At the end of the race was the 100 yard uphill barbed wire crawl and that was rough. After the barbed wire crawl there was the rope climb and with my gimp paw I was still able to climb up that rope faster than I ever have before! It was AMAZING!!!
It was Erin and Kristens first Spartan race and they were nervous but they both rocked the race!!! All of my friends are beasts! They all did amazing and it was great to do the race as a group, we were able to help encourage and support each other through the race!
I am thankful for this amazing group of friends and workout partners!
