What an inspirational event! Dennis set several world records while pushing an athlete rider.
The day began at 9am on Saturday August 1st and was to end Sunday September 1st, with Dennis finishing up the run at the Rock n' Roll half marathon for the last two hours. It was awesome, at 9am there were already 10-15 people at VA Beach Middle ready to see Dennis start. Over the next 22 hours I had the privilege to be there at the school, participate in a relay, run miles with Dennis, and help him out along the way. Dennis had an overwhelming amount of support from his wife and friends.
Around 4:30/4:45 am I was awoken by everyone talking and surrounding Dennis, his ankle was swollen and he was just going to try and take a short break before the start of Rock n' Roll. His ankle grew in size and he was advised not to continue on...at this point Dennis was at 90.5 miles while pushing an athlete rider. This blog does not give this event enough justice, what Dennis did to raise awareness for children with disabilities was amazing. Over the past few months I have had the privilege to get to know Dennis and he is a man with such a big heart. No where in this was he after a personal goal, it was all about the children.
